Compatible Chemicals and Substances
Nylon is generally resistant to the following:
- Fuels and Oils: Diesel fuel, gasoline (high-aromatic), kerosene, mineral oil, and hydraulic oils.
- Solvents and Chemicals: Acetone, Benzene, Carbon Tetrachloride, Cyclohexane, Ethyl Acetate, and many ethers.
- Other: Water, detergents, soaps, and many agricultural chemicals.
- Organic compounds: Aniline, Formaldehyde (40%), and various alcohols (excluding severe ones).
Chemicals to AVOID (Incompatible)
Nylon should not be used with strong acids, oxidizing agents, and certain specific chemicals:
- Acids: Hydrochloric acid (HCl), Sulfuric acid, Nitric acid, Formic acid, and acid-based fertilizers.
- Oxidizers/Halogens: Chlorine (including water systems with high chlorine), Bromine, Fluorine, and Ozone.
- Other: Phenol, Cresol, and certain harsh cleaning agents
