Speaker boxes should be protected for several important reasons—especially if they’re used in professional, live performance, or touring environments.
Prevent Physical Damage
Speaker boxes are often transported, stacked, and moved frequently. Without a protective coating, they’re prone to:
- Scratches and dents
- Splits in the wood
- Chipping and corner damage
Extend Lifespan
Protective coatings help maintain the structural integrity of the speaker box, reducing the need for costly repairs or replacements over time.
Improve Moisture Resistance
Exposure to moisture—whether from spills, humidity, or outdoor use—can warp wood, cause delamination, or lead to mold. A coating adds a water-resistant barrier.
Enhance Aesthetics
Coated boxes look cleaner and more professional, which matters in performance and event settings. A durable finish prevents peeling or fading paint.
Resist Abrasion and Wear
Friction from transport and daily use can wear down unprotected surfaces. A tough coating absorbs much of this abuse.
Simplify Maintenance
Coated surfaces are easier to clean and less likely to absorb stains or odors.
For professionals, DJs, bands, and installers, protecting speaker boxes is an investment in both appearance and performance.
A durable coating ensures your gear can handle the road and still look (and sound) great.
Apply on dry, clean, oil, grease, silicone, wax and dust-free substrate. Spray directly out of the bottle with the recommended Chemicar Economy Spray Gun model RA/88 for the best results. Spray in two applications of 20 mils (0.5mm) thick each. Allow coating to dry to the touch between applications. Cures completely in 72 hours.

Tekton 77 Speaker Box Coating
In these days of scams, near-scams, and buyer beware, it's refreshing to get a product that is exactly as described. When I saw the video of the coating going on with a roller, I was pretty skeptical, but I got it anyway. It worked exactly that easily for me. Read the instructions--they're simple--and use in a ventilated area, because it has an odor, but it dissipates. On reason I tried this product is that the small print on some other products warn that they could combust spontaneously! Even cause a flash-type explosion. This is a latex and cleans with soap and water! MUCH better, IMHO. This covers beautifully! I will order from this company again when I need more.
